Charity Event in Wimbledon

UPDATED (Includes link to fundraising page): On Friday 5th April I will be hosting a charity event in Wimbledon to raise funds for the amazing charity Ourmala that provides support – through yoga and other services – to refugees and asylum seekers in the UK.

It will be a donation-only yoga class held at the William Morris House between 7.15pm and 8.15pm (approximately -please come along even if running a little late from work).

A suggested donation is £10 but please come along and donate whatever you can afford – every little helps. You can donate ahead or after the class here (click link to take you to fundraising page).

It won’t be a strenuous class – rather a relaxing way to ease yourself into the weekend while also doing some good for others.  I hope it will be a great way to meet other like-minded people in the community too. If you want to join us – please email me to book a slot at

Here’s some extra information directly from Ourmala provided by the charity’s founder @emilybrettyoga.  For more information and to watch a video of their work in action – click here.

  • The charity was founded in 2011. “ We serve people who have been forced to become refugees and seek asylum at no fault of their own, including survivors of trafficking and modern-day slavery. Warriors for Women is a celebration of yoga itself; the power yoga gives us to make positive change – TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY – when our hearts, heads, and actions align.
  • Warriors for Women is a movement of yoga and meditation practices that take place every year throughout March and April. “We enable people forced to become refugees and seek asylum, who have experienced terror and the worst of human cruelty, to genuinely rebuild their lives.”
  • “All funds raised from this class, and all the others being held across the UK and even as far as Texas, will directly enable the people OURMALA serves to access the healing and empowering benefits of Yoga in addition to the other resources that OURMALA provides.”
  • “The average travel refund at OURMALA is now £6.80 and pretty much everyone we work with needs this to access yoga as they live below the poverty line. To give one person a term of yoga costs £40.80 in travel refunds.”
